SLOW BURN
“I'm sorry you lost so much while doing what you loved, Jacob.”
I gave a humorless laugh before flopping back on the couch, causing it to rock back and forth in a slow sway.
“The worst thing is that they tried to save it, you know? I still had it attached to me. Sure, the nerves, muscles, and bones were shattered, but they did what they could. But a few days later… Let's just say it just didn't work.”
“Necrosis appeared?”
“Fucking necrosis,” I whispered bitterly.
But the resentment I felt faded from my mind when Vivienne surprised me by laying her head on my chest, her arm and leg wrapping around me in a warm embrace.
