“I am, actually.” My mother claps her hands, leading us into the house. The smell of roasted meat, fresh bread, and something sweet hits us immediately. The house is warm, loud, and alive. Cousins, aunts, uncles, and neighbors mill around, and the chatter is deafening. Then eyed her suspiciously. “What?” She shrugged, not knowing what was running through her friend’s mind to put that mischievous look in her eyes. ”You’re wearing it aren’t you?” “Wearing what?” She shouted back. “Willis’ shirt is what.” Carol retorted, then added “You know, the hoodie you’re wearing is not transparent. Loid asked in surprise. “Cover your fucking ears!” I shouted at him in panic as I watched her stepping closer. Loid let go of my hands and covered his ears. She was about a foot or two away from us when I opened my mouth and howled. I murged the magic of heaven with Carie's howl somehow and it worked. The skin that thing was wearing melted down in front of our eyes and it's true form was revealed in front of Loid as well.

Across the room, Carolyn’s children, ten-year-old Chloe, seven-year-old Ben, and Asher were engaged in a boisterous game of hide-and-seek. Susan herself bustled into the kitchen, her cheeks flushed with the cold morning air. Behind her trailed her husband,carrying a large,decorated cake.
