Love As A Construct Novels & Stories

Love was created as something pure. That is what they said. Something sacred. Something untouched by judgment. Something that simply existed, meant to be felt without fear, without condition, without limits. It was supposed to be the one thing that did not belong to rules. And yet, it was measured. Defined. Restricted. They built boundaries around it, shaped it into something acceptable, something controllable. They decided where it could go, who it could belong to, how it should look, how it should be expressed. You may love, they said.

"I do. I always have." "I never thought you didn't." He looked at the chess board. He straightened one of his pawns that was already straight. "But love isn't the same as being there." He said it simply, without accusation, the way he might state a fact about weather or mathematics. "My teacher told us that. She said love is a verb. It's not just what you feel. It's what you do." Adrian could not speak. He sat across the chess board from his son and had nothing to say that was adequate to the moment, because his son had just explained to him, in seventeen words, what Sophia had been trying to explain to him for a decade.

I turned my head back and it was Christopher. However, his presence made everything worse.. "Awwn! The boyfriend has arrived ". Logan giggled hysterically. Christopher then pushed me behind as he confronted his friend. " Don't be stupid! And leave Alice alone" He said . " She doesn't love you". He added. But that single statement caused him to loose his temper even more.. " And she loves you?" " Remember, we are still married" Logan said, trying to hit Christopher where it hurts. But he remained calm as he replied.

I pressed my face against his suit, breathing him in like oxygen. For a moment, neither of us spoke. Then he said, “So they were wrong.” I looked up. “About what?” “That love is a variable,” he said. “Not a force.” His hand cupped my jaw, thumb brushing under my eye. “They thought this was about data. Control. Power.” His forehead rested against mine. “But you and I?” His voice dropped. “We’re inevitability.” Emotion surged through me fear, awe, hope braided together so tightly it hurt.

Not love. Possibility.

I watched her for I don't know how long, minutes or maybe longer. My heart was pounding so hard I was scared it might wake her up. The words were right there again, sitting on my tongue. I love you. Just three words and that was all. Three words that should have been easy. But every time I opened my mouth, something closed in my throat. I could feel the familiar fear of letting someone in creep in again. I always believed loving someone meant giving them the power to destroy you, at least that was what I learnt from my parents relationship.

She felt desperate for an answer that would solve her problem. "Can you really be with someone you don't love?" So Ra asked, trying to make her change her mind. "Jason begged me to give him a chance. And well.." Lana paused. "He was a bit manic." "Just do whatever you want! I'm leaving." So Ra stood up slamming her hands into the table, she stormed off leaving Lana looking bewildered. ~~~

I sigh and stand up to walk across the room to grab a glass of water from off the table, "I miss the times when mom and dad used to be around almost all the time." "Yeah me too." She agrees. "Mom literally didn't know when I started my period." I widen my eyes and gulp the glass of water down before looking around the room awkwardly, "Uh..I don't think you should talk about stuff like that to guys." She chuckles, "Are you kidding? You're literally my best friend. Best friends share everything with each other." she tells me. Most of the times, she uses the words,literally,basically,technically,practically,theoretically and a few more in most of her sentences. Something I've become used to.

He choked. "Then why do you feel odd when I show my love towards you? Why can't you believe that I love you too in the same way? All this question of who deserves what... it doesn't make any sense. When we love someone, we love them with all their flaws and all their virtues. Please don't say such things again." Damini looked away from him and sucked on her lower lip, trying to control her tears.

Anonna's eyes widened, her excitement palpable. Layana's hand came up next. "Liquid copper is the main ingredient for a venussium, isn't it?" Elma nodded. Layana continued, "but one day, when I and my caste witches were snooping around we came across an ancient potions book. The instructions for the love potion said to melt in four millimeters of copper, which we did. And by then we thought it a good idea to give the potion to a man Faina fancied but I'm afraid it turned out all wrong, he became too obsessed." Layana ended.
