Chapter 12: When Trust Overruled The house was quiet again. Lucas sat in his study with his laptop open in front of him. The screen glowed softly in the dim room, filled with names, faces, and long descriptions of doctors,therapist. Every one of them claimed to be the best. But none of them felt right. Leo sat beside him on the couch. He wasn’t holding his teddy bear. He was angry. His small arms were crossed tightly over his chest. His lips were pressed together in a straight line. His eyes followed Lucas’s every move with quiet defiance.

He watched the other students milling about—some laughing, others exchanging greetings—and felt an overwhelming sense of loneliness. Darius glanced at him, noting the distant look in his brother’s eyes. “Hey, Damon,” Darius said softly, trying to bridge the gap. “You okay?” Damon forced a smile, though it didn’t quite reach his eyes. “Just tired from the flight.” Darius didn’t buy it, but he chose not to push. A man dressed in a black charcoal suit walked over to them and slightly bowed. “Welcome, Lucianos. Please come with me, and don’t worry about your things—the servants will bring them in.”

A single shelf of books that had been arranged with the particular care of someone who needed at least one thing in a temporary space to feel permanent. Kael looked at the shelf for a moment. he pickdd up some books and checked around them. I folded my hands and admired tbe room “His room is just like I thought it would be. Very neat” I said, running a finger along the edge of a perfectly aligned stack of books in his shelf. “You say that like everyone else's room is a mess” Lucas replied, a small annoyed look played on his face as he checked the closet. “I never said that” I watched him move. He looked out of place in such a structured room. “What does the glove even look like?”

But it had a different scent and there was a stereo where the music came from. There was a book on the bed and it had vicious drawings of creatures that I assumed were vampires on its cover. It piqued my interest and I went for it. "What are you doing here?" I let out a sharp yelp at the voice, dropping the book and spinning around. Max Luciano had just stepped out of the bathroom, in just a towel and all I could do was gulp and try to control the crazy beat of my heart. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't be here. Excuse me." I said quickly, sprinting to the door but he beat me to it. He kicked it shut and grabbed my arm, turning me to face him and slamming my back into the door.

I didn’t make it far, just up to an abandoned park, it’s where my car died, it wouldn’t start anymore but it was okay, that’s as far as I’m going from here. Lulu, my stuffed grey wolf with purple eyes was my one and only loyal friend, she was with me when I spent the six dollars, when I was too hungry and was ready to beg for food. He turned to Liam after they booked the shopping mall delivery service to get the things delivered at their address.

“We each pick out one book for each other. You will pick out a book that you think I will like and I’ll pick one for you. Ready?” My eyes lit up as the challenge set in. “Funny or serious?” “Both?” Piercy looked at me with something swimming behind his eyes. “Okay. Go!” Since he had a dark sexual side, I picked a dark romance book I knew would drive him insane. For a funny book, I chose a book on types of love language and how to communicate with your partner.

Lucian gestured to her. "What are you reading?" Clarissa manages to ask. "It's a fantasy novel, werewolf bond, I never knew this world had a little knowledge about us, " Lucian said with a frown. "Humans like to romanticize everything," Clarissa said. "I can see that" Lucian pointed to the book in his hand. The two had a little awkward laughter. "I'm sorry about earlier, " she said. Lucian knitted his brow at her, " Earlier?" he asked confused.
