Carmine’s body went rigid beside me, and when I glanced at him, his jaw was clenched tight, his eyes dark with fury.
“What the hell is going on?” I thought to myself, heart pounding in my chest.
Luther didn’t seem phased by the reaction from either of them. His smile remained soft, and his eyes never left mine.
Carmine’s growl rumbled deeper, and before I could react, he stepped in front of me, completely blocking Luther from view. His cold, commanding presence loomed over me like a wall, his eyes dark and unreadable as they bore into mine.
“I’m sure that little brain of yours is wondering why you’re here,” he growled, his voice low and laced with a mocking edge.
