“Eleven, and you sold me like I was a stain you could scrub away.”
Laura’s jaw tightened. But she didn’t deny it.
I took one more step, closing the space between us.
“So why call me now?” I asked. “Why summon the monster back to your perfect little mausoleum?”
She opened her mouth to speak when the glass slipped from her hand, hit the floor, and shattered. Her eyes went wide—not with fear, but surprise. Her mouth opened, but no words came.
Then she dropped.
I gasped and stumbled back.
