The bubbling water turned from cloudy to a sickly green. It brought to Lloyd's mind the phlegm his late grandmother had coughed up when her lungs were slowly filling with fluid and infection. The only difference was it lacked streaks of red. The woman stirred it carefully, not phased by the colour, or by the harsh smell that stung Lloyd's nostrils as he breathed. He glanced at Nathaniel who was looking away, a slight frown of discomfort blighting his features. Whether that was the smell or the entire situation, Lloyd didn't know.

Jonas nodded, his expression unreadable. Lyla closed her eyes, her hands glowing faintly as she sprinkled the herbs into the bowl of water. She whispered a prayer to the forest, asking it to reveal what lay hidden. The water began to ripple, the surface glowing with a soft, green light. Lyla placed her hands over the bowl, her energy flowing into it. “Jonas,” she said, her voice steady. “Place your hands in the water.” He hesitated for a moment before doing as she asked. The light grew brighter, swirling around his hands like tendrils of mist.
