The Love We Never Expected
Mabel touched my arm gently.
“Ava,” she said softly, “you need to calm down a little.”
I sighed tiredly and leaned against the wall.
“I’m trying.”
“You’ve been sitting beside her since yesterday,” Mabel continued. “You have not even changed your clothes properly.”
I looked down at myself.
My shirt was wrinkled, and my hair looked messy. I probably looked terrible.
“I don’t care about that right now,” I muttered.
“I know,” Mabel said. “But you still need to take care of yourself too. Lina is stable now. We can go home quickly, shower, change clothes, and come back.”
