Thirty minutes later, a loud knock rattled the door and before Voss could even open it fully, Maggie stormed in like she was escaping a battlefield.
She was freckled, curly-haired, wearing leggings, a blazer, and the exhausted confidence of someone who ruled a kingdom made of toddlers.
When she spotted Layla, her eyes brightened.
“Oh! So you’re the famous Layla.” Maggie beamed, pulling her into a warm, tight hug that smelled like baked goods and chaos. “I’ve heard so much about you!”
Layla blinked, startled but smiling. “It’s really nice to finally meet you.”
