Gudrun throws some herbs into the fire, leaning forward to breathe in the smoke. When I walk over, she hands me the pouch and I reach in taking a handful of herbs. I recognise sage and yarrow. And in my head I go through their magical properties. They are cleansing and calming the nerves and they will ground us. I close my eyes imagining how smoke will engulf my nerves. After a few seconds I feel my mind opening up to the surroundings and I hear the fire singing to me. I open my eyes repeating the words Gudrun had said, then I throw the herbs into the fire. I breathe in the spicy smoke. When I open my eyes I feel how it calms me and makes me more focussed.

Paige laughed heartily and said to her, "Wait and see how my mom will react when she will see the state you're in and what herbs you're bringing her, trust me you'll have no choice but to accept our hospitality." Cassy smiled at her and continued to follow her asking, "Are the herbs I found really that rare?" Paige said as she looked again at the herbs she had picked from her basket, "Not only are they rare, but I've never seen them of this quality before. They are magic herbs that are used to make level 4 and 5 magic pills and the mages that live here sometimes have to go in other cities to be able to get them, when they will find out my mom has them they will all want them."

I named them in alphabetical order to make sure I didn't miss any. Ari studied me for a moment. Her jaw slack. "Those are mostly fire elements." I shrugged. She'd asked me which ones I liked. I gave her my answer. She shook herself. "Well then. We can definitely work with those. Many of them work for protection, dispelling negativity, and increasing magic." Her lips twitched at the corners. "Even when you didn't realize your power, you were drawn to the herbs to help you." Her blue eyes brightened. She jabbed her wand in his direction and he suddenly could not move his hands. "Like I was saying" she continued in a calm tune like she did not just yell a few minutes ago. "These herbs include the mandrake root, mugwort, sage, bay Laurel leaves, and Rosemary. There are many others but we will look into the ones mentioned for a start" she revealed and brought one of the plants forward. "This.. is the mugwort plant" she announced, raising it for everyone to see. I stared at the weird-looking plant before, it did not look one bit like the one in Mrs. Springwood's hands. As a matter, the plant before me had a strange phallic shape that got me wondering if it is natural and not absurd.

She obviously knew that it contained magical properties. Witches could probably use the necklace to increase their power.
