THE CHOSEN ONE

THE CHOSEN ONE

The bond stretched like a heated thread between us, protesting the distance. I walked to the bag tossed in the corner of the room, where I had put the book when I went to the bathroom. I picked it up. The cover was old, leather worn with age. A strange symbol was engraved in the center: a full moon entwined with branches and roots. I returned to the bed and sat beside Icarus, who leaned closer, curious. "It’s handwritten," I commented, carefully leafing through it. "Looks like a journal… or a grimoire."

I turned it to the side where there is no dirt and wipe the book using it. I saw a black cover with gold linings and designs. I touch the ribbons that are placed in some of the pages. There are symbols located at the bottom part of the cover, carved and painted in the color of gold, but I don’t understand what it means. I looked at the back but there were just designs. I tried opening it but there’s a metal lock on the side. Huh? Was this… a secret book? It kinda looked like a grimoire.

Reborn: The Duke’s Unbothered Villainess

Inside, the air felt colder. Thicker. Like every book here breathed a little on its own. Some were chained shut with silver locks. Some had covers made from materials I didn’t want to guess at—scales, bone, darkened velvet. Alaric reached for one specific volume. Thick. Heavy. Black leather with a sigil embossed on the front: a circle surrounding a cracked mirror. “This,” he said quietly, “is the kingdom’s only known complete record on necromancy.”

The Prince Who Was Raised in Hell

The Prince Who Was Raised in Hell

It was as if he was deathly afraid he would be caught. Despite his speed, Caspian was able to catch a pretty clear glance of what was underneath. On the other side of the man's long robes were an abundance of small painted albums with salacious covers. They all had extremely suggestive titles as well, such as "The Beauty With Plump Skin" among others.

What happened to the original writer of this book? The new writer is a far cry from the first one in terms of style, creativity, dialogue and story telling. He has turned a once very arresting story into a very boring one. It is sad.

I'm The Alpha's Mate

Second bookcase, two shelves down, with a green cover, the words are jumbled up with the rest of my memories. Lycanthrope Mythology, the book cover reads in a delicate calligraphy. Quickly, I take it and return to the living room. The book looks to be decades old, definitely passed down through generations. Now that I think about it, almost all the books in Sebastian's office seem to be aged and fragile.

And he had a long nose that looked like a cursive L – L. “Sal Maan Roos Dee. He is a big writer. One of the biggest of all times. This man, see,” revealed my brother, showing the back cover of the book he had in his hands. The passport size photograph of the man on the back cover was exactly like the man I saw in my visions. I AM NOT KIDDING! I mean it! The front cover read: “An Extraordinary Novel” – The New York Review of Books ________________________________________________ MIDNIGHT’S CHILDREN

The Alpha and the traitor's daughter

Each shelf was filled with books and scrolls that contained pack history and strategies. My eyes scanned the titles absentmindedly as I made my way to the book Lucian had requested. While I was doing that, my eyes caught something peculiar. On the far shelf at the other end of the office, there was a single leather-bound book that stood out. It was named the Pack Secrets. The title alone sparked curiosity, and without thinking, I reached for it. The worn book cover felt cool against my fingers, and something about it felt forbidden and dangerous. “What are you hiding, Lucian?” I whispered under my breath.

And he certainly got a reaction, as I alternated between blushing and flushing as we went over terminology I could never even have imagined. Some items were as innocent as a blindfold, but then it ratcheted up to bondage. Light bondage, heavy bondage, leather, chains, ropes and restraints. Suspension, harnesses, manacles and cuffs. So many ways to control another person, I was overwhelmed on page one. Gags: Cloth, ball, rubber, phallic, ring. Full head. Straight-jackets, yikes. Impact play, which would be spanking, flogging, whipping, metal, leather, crops. Face slapping. Oh and I won't even get into all of the sexual activity it outlines. Because everything else didn't have to involve sex a

Stamped into the cover was a symbol: an eye inside a triangle, surrounded by curling, intricate lines that almost seemed alive. “What is this?” Leila asked, keeping her voice steady. Christina gave her a look that said she was either testing her or trying to decide how much to say. “This,” she said at last, “is why you’ve been dodging mustard jackets and cleaning up after dead archaeologists.” Leila’s heart skipped a beat. She sat down, sliding the book toward her. It was heavier than it looked, its weight a promise of bad news. “Oh my! Explain,” she said, flipping it open.

One Night with the Hybrid King

One Night with the Hybrid King

But hope, like magic, has a price, and I am increasingly aware of that price. The book itself is a work of macabre art. The cover, made of dark leather that almost appears black, pulses with a life of its own, as if it were breathing. The leather is stained with deep shades of red, almost as though it has been soaked in blood over the centuries, giving it a sinister and throbbing appearance. Along the edges of the cover, aged silver chains are interwoven in complex patterns, depicting ancient runes and seals of protection, symbols only an enchantress could decipher. The title of the book is carved into the leather in rustic letters, subtly glinting with ruby, as though the words had been wri
