Mara’s face lit up instantly.
“Jane!” she said, stepping forward and wrapping her arms around a woman who looked… polished.
Jane hugged her back, one arm careful because she was holding a stack of books, leather-bound, heavy, the kind people carried to look important.
“Good to see you outside your cave,” Mara teased. “Though judging by those books, you’re about to disappear again.”
Jane smiled, tight and controlled.
“Probably,” she said. “But I’ll make time for you two. I always do.”
