The Untamed Matriarch
My voice surprises me—it’s low, resonant, and steady.
The door swings open, and Mason’s massive silhouette is framed against the bright light of the corridor. I realize then that I’m standing in a dark room; the moon is the only light, and my eyes had simply adjusted to the shadows.
Mason pauses, scanning the darkness, and then his hand finds the switch. Two dim, amber-hued sconces flicker to life by the bed, bathing the room in a pale, predatory orange. I blink in the sudden light, seeing him standing there, one hand tucked into the pocket of his tailored slacks.
