She knew exile was worse than death for a wolf. To live alone without strength was the greatest punishment. I turned and walked out of the dark corridor. When I stepped into the open air again, the first light of dawn shimmered across the snowy rooftops. The air felt clean and sweet. The weight on my chest was gone. The past was finally closed.
