You know I have more important things to worry about,” I huffed, although I was eager to hear what happened. “Did you see him?” “Nope. He’s not there.” He paused. “The housekeeper said he went to Santa Barbara to fetch his wife and stepdaughter.” “Oh, fuck…” My heart dropped to my stomach. “No, no, no… This is bad.” “Yes, I agree.” Maxwell said. “I’m taking the midnight flight back. I’ll keep you posted.” He ended the conversation, and I immediately placed a call to Eric.

Third POV Theodore himself, still in his suit jacket from the meeting they had pulled him out of walked in to take in the scene. His eyes swept the room once and found Eliana on the bed, his daughter on the floor. He moved to Eliana without looking at anything else, his hands going to her face, her wrist, the torn IV line hanging loose and bloody from her arm. Maxwell was already on the floor with two men on top of him, face down, his cheek against the hospital tile, arms wrenched behind his back. He strained against the hold until the third man put a knee in his back and he went flat on the ground.

The heavy apartment door slammed shut behind him, the sound echoing like a gunshot. And suddenly, Maeve was alone. Completely alone in the dark. Her phone buzzed again. Another message. Maeve snatched it up instantly, her eyes scanning the screen. A photograph appeared. It was Max's body—still preserved. Relief washed through her in a sudden, sickening wave. At least one thing hadn't gone wrong yet. At least she still held that card. Another message popped up right beneath the photo: *What now?* Maeve stared at the image of her cousin's husband for a long moment. Then, with steady, cold fingers, she typed back two words:

Zayden said angrily, “Oh, there isn’t a problem at all. However, why do you want Jason to take my place? Have you forgotten what happened three years ago?” Sean’s face turned pale at mentioning what happened three years ago. At that moment, they heard Rose shouting from outside the window, “Hey, Max wait for me! Don’t run so fast.” However, Max didn’t answer her.

Jayer was the man to say this time. "I could feel anger from him. It's like he didn't want me to be close to his daughter," Jason answered while sitting down. "You will stay at home for the rest of the week. No going anywhere until we figure out what this thing wants from you" Jayer turned serious all of a sudden "Okay." Surprisingly, Jason didn't argue with him. Miriam and Jayer looked at him and went to their room. Jason also walked to his room. Max's mom had been transferred to DustVille Hospital, working as a nurse under a famous doctor Maxwell Martin. She was excited about her new job but didn't know she would face the worst horrors of her life.

“No, but you can make yourself useful by setting it up for us.” I think Victor will refuse, but he shocks me by nodding, and together we go to the living room where he sets up the television. I’m surprised to see there’s a N*****x account already attached to the television, so I take the remote from him and begin watching the third season of 2 Broke Girls because it reminds me of Soph who I miss so much. It’s her favorite show. Three episodes in and I know Madam C won’t be joining me when all she does is pass me my meal with a promise to return. Though I’m a little saddened by it, I’m too busy laughing to dwell on the sadness. I really love Max, she’s funny.

Now he could hold her freely, and the simple joy of it made his chest ache. Outside, Maxwell stood at his car for a moment, staring up at the apartment windows. A strange mix of emotions swirled within him, relief that his sister and best friend had finally stopped dancing around each other, worry about what would happen if things didn't work out, and an unexpected pang of something like loneliness. He'd always been the third wheel in their trio, but now it was official. His phone buzzed in his pocket. It was his mother. "Well?" she demanded without preamble. "Did they finally figure it out?"

Cohan gave him another shot as Keegs sat back down and began to cry. "Central to Six-three David, status please?" Maxine rushed back into Cohan's after I ignored the radio call a second time. "Central from Six-three David, " she said. "We're 10-4 here." After settling Central she screamed at me for my stupidity. I didn't want her to hear what Keegs was saying. She'd be liable if anything happened and I didn't want her involved. It didn't matter what I wanted, she was involved and she didn't care.

I now realise Jackson is going, and something makes me want to tell him to stay, but I know I can’t. Jackson comes over to me, sits down and explains what will happen. An old teammate who left a few years ago is going to come and stay here, just in case. Jackson, Marcus, Troy, Joel and Alexander are going to where they believe he is. I don’t want him to go. Jackson is one of the reasons Max is so angry and wants revenge. I decide I don’t want to hear the details, so I move and go sit with Liam and Georgina, trying to keep myself distracted. After hours of them planning, they are almost ready to leave. After cooking for them all, they sit down and eat.
