I had no idea she was even connected to this world outside the Moonbeam Pack. I tried to avoid her, but before I could turn away, she stepped into my path. “Well, well, well.” She sneered. “Look who’s playing dress up.” I clenched my fists at my sides, willing myself to stay calm. “I don’t know you,” I said, my voice steady. “Please excuse me.” Her lip curled into a cruel smile. “Oh, don’t pretend like you don’t remember me, Rowena. The rejected Luna. The murderer.”

The ghosts looked fully recharged, lounging around in small groups and staring at me with bright, expectant eyes. A cold, mechanical voice rang in my head. "Game completion reaches 100%. Congratulations on clearing the game, Player. You will be logged out in ten minutes." I froze and was utterly stunned that everything had gone by in just a brief blur. Though it was a horror game, it felt like I was just here working part-time. With a sigh, I put on my brightest smile. "Free hugs limited to one per ghost. Anyone?"

I forced a smile, unsure of what to say. I stood staring into blank space for a few moments. “Roman?” Jack called, staring at me cautiously. “Let's shift” His eyes didn't leave mine. I followed him to the deepest path of the woods where we always shifted from the prying eyes of the humans. Soon we were covered in fur and running wild through the trees. Our feet pounding the ground as we ran until our lungs began to burn, and the adrenaline kicked in, our senses heightened. I flopped the haunt. Not once did I catch anything.

I survived the most dangerous and chaotic first three months of the zombie virus outbreak. One morning, the roar of helicopter blades came through the bunker's external microphones, followed by a military loudspeaker broadcast. "Attention all survivors. This is the Southwest Rescue Command rescue team. We have established a safe base. Survivors who hear this broadcast, proceed to the designated assembly point..." I stood up, took off my comfortable loungewear, changed into a black tactical gear and put on a stab-resistant vest. I slid two combat knives into my tactical boots and slung a cocked compound crossbow over my back.
