**This is Book Three of the Guardians Trilogy. This book contains references to events that occurred in the first two books and spoilers for those books. It is recommended that you read The Broken Warrior’s Daughter and Alpha’s Guardian Angel before reading this, the final book in the trilogy. I know all the guys on the team, and most of them are good guys. There are three that I don’t like being around because they give me the creeps. Lina doesn’t like them either. The maze was three floors, connected by stairwells that were not marked on any visible map, so you either found them by moving or you died waiting. The walls were concrete panels on slow hydraulic tracks, moving inward at a rate that was almost imperceptible until suddenly it was not. A corridor that was eight feet wide became six feet, then four, and if you were still in it at two feet, the sensors registered you as eliminated, and the panels completed the job.

Darkness was thick through these halls, and she trusted Gabe would lead them out without any difficulty. A sliver of light shone up ahead, almost a bluish color. She wanted to sigh with relief, knowing it was probably the moon shining off the ocean, but she didn’t dare. They weren’t out of danger yet. The closer they came to the light, the quicker their footsteps became. It was hard to walk careful when hope—and freedom—were so close. The few stairs leading to the top deck were just ahead. Gabe strode up the stairs first, nearly pulling Emmie’s hand as she followed. As Gabe’s head cleared topside, several clicks of pistols resounded in the night. Gabe froze, and her heart sank.

Instead, a tall maze of steel and vines stood at the center, stretching into the trees beyond. A trial of instinct and survival. The rules were simple. Find your way out before sundown. No weapons. No help. The catch? You weren’t alone in the maze. Mara touched my arm before I stepped forward. “This isn’t about speed.
