“What do you know? Must be fate.” I start walking again. “Or I’m in hell.” I hear his intoxicating chuckle as he follows me in silence to the next class. I take my seat, almost in the back. He still sits close, but this time he was diagonal from me and out of my line of vision. Maybe, just maybe, I’d be able to focus in this class. I think I heard fate laugh at me. “What the hell were you and Ryan talking about?”

“I’ve always been with you. You just kept me hidden.” Charlene’s eyes widened as the woman lifted an arm and pointed to her own forearm. A soft light pulsed, and an intricate mark appeared—mirroring the same symbol that had once been on the legendary spear. The mark on the woman’s skin spread, glowing across her forehead. “I am you, and you are me. We are one, Trinity. The spear, you, and me—we are Fates.” Charlene’s pulse pounded in her ears. “What?! That’s insane! I don’t know who or what you are, but I am NOT a Fate!”

"Believe me, love, you won't want to know about my escapades behind close doors," I felt my heart sink in dismay as I forced myself out of his arms. He chuckled. "What are you doing here? I fix my hair and walk to him. "Do you believe in fate?" He scrunched his brow. "Like it's all in the cards kind of thing?" I lean on the machine beside him. "Yeah. Like no matter what, the universe keeps pulling you in a certain direction. Fate." He shakes his head. "Never had reason to. Fates not really for guys like me. Why?"
