My parents stood off to the side of the clearing, watching with wide eyes, and Cas and Griffin stood next to me, with Kali, Caleb, Dayna and Lupin just behind them.
“It’s time,” Megandra said, her voice steady as she looked up at us. “Once I start, there’s no going back. If it fails—”
“Then at least we tried,” I interrupted, my voice cutting through the tension. “Anything is better than this.”
Megandra nodded, her expression resolute. She knelt beside Theo, her hands hovering over him as she began to chant. The words were foreign, ancient, carrying a weight that made the hairs on my arms stand on end.
