After all, not every epiphany deserves forgiveness, right? Then one day, I caught something on TV that sent chills down my spine. The mental hospital I was in was in the news: a scandal broke out. Staff were arrested for a laundry list of horrors: embezzlement, violence, severe patient abuse, and some were even accused of human experimentation, organ trafficking, and murder. The worst of them were facing the death penalty. The memories of pain I buried came flooding back. I took deep breaths, trying to steady my racing heart.

I opened windows and at that time it was cold, but I couldn’t suffocate myself with her stench. So, I drove as fast as I could to the facility. It was one of the facilities my company owned. It’s for the rich who suffer from mental illness. It’s private because they don’t want the public to know about their loved ones losing their minds. I got it though because there were many prominent figures there who lost their minds and suffer from depression due to extreme stress situations. When I got there, they took her inside but not without a fight. She was kicking and screaming calling me a liar.

And for that, I will always be thankful. As I continued to share my story, I couldn't help but think about the other patients I had met during my time in the mental hospital. There was Sarah, a young woman who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia. She would often hear voices and see things that weren't there, and it was heartbreaking to see her struggle to distinguish reality from her delusions.
