Iris pressed her palm against the door, and the symbols began to glow.
The light spread across the wood, golden and warm, filling the narrow space. I heard a click, deep within the mechanism, and the door swung open.
Beyond it was a small room, barely larger than a closet. The walls were covered in the same symbols, carved deep into the stone. In the center of the room, a pedestal rose from the floor, and on that pedestal sat a single object.
A key.
But not an ordinary key. It was made of a metal I didn't recognize—dark and gleaming, like obsidian caught in moonlight. Symbols covered its surface, intricate and delicate, and it pulsed with a faint, rhythmic light.
