He stepped toward me, his large hands framing my face, forcing me to look at him. "Then today," he said, his voice a gravelly promise that made the floorboards vibrate, "we don't just ask for justice. We use the truth to bury her so deep she’ll never see the sun again. You have the letter. You have the report. You are the daughter of the Silverpine ridge line, Millie. Stand tall." “Mama” Leo rushed to me and held my hand with his hands. “Everything will be alright and you will be fine and you and Braham will have a wedding and we will celebrate my birthday as a family just like you promised. So don’t worry, okay?”

“But he's in Oklahoma, with his sick mother and he's also struggling financially” “Sick mother? How critical is her condition?” Sonia asked. Rose paused to think of another lie. “Answer me, please. Let’s get the hell out of here, Rose,” Sonia pressed. “His mother was diagnosed with leukemia,” Rose said. “But, did you inform him about all this?” Sonia asked. “Yes,” Rose lied. “And what was his response?” “He said I should get to a hospital and be safe,” “Damn, men nowadays and their lack of emotions,” Sonia muttered.

“Are you crazy? She literally just had a demon wire ripped out of her veins. She almost died. She’s barely walking.” “Exactly,” Liam said. Heather threw her hands up. “Oh, perfect! ‘Hey, Ironclaw, here’s a woman you already tried to kill once, would you like another go?’” “She’s Baylee’s mother,” Liam said, calm but unyielding. “She’s Ironclaw-born. She outranks Gunner in memory if not in age. And every wolf in four packs knows exactly who she is. They all heard what happened to her. They all heard what she survived. They all heard Baylee risked open war to get her back. If Melissa walks into Hollow Creek with Silverveil at her back and says, ‘My daughter is Luna of Silverveil and you will n

“It was already cracked.” Mrs. Lee leaned against a pillar, blood smearing down her temple. “She stole you. Raised you in a palace of lies. You were never her daughter. You were my greatest failure… and my greatest weapon.” Chaewon clenched her fists. “My mother died protecting me.” She voiced, tightly. “She died trying to atone.” The words hit like shrapnel. Jian stepped between them, breaking the spell. “We’re done here.” “No,” Mrs. Lee murmured. “We are just beginning.” And then—she did something none of them expected. She collapsed to her knees and held up a key.

Her eyes were gold. "You’re late," she said. She looked at me. "And you brought a knife to a family reunion." She raised her hand. The Lunar Dagger in my hand turned into dust. Who is the "Mother," and why is she holding a child that shouldn't exist?

The music swirled around me, but my thoughts were far from the laughter and chatter at the tables. Mama GreenLee’s words echoed in my chest, stirring memories I had buried deep. Maeve. My mother. Strong, kind, radiant — and gone far too soon. I thought of the whispers I’d overheard as a child, the fragments of conversations that never quite added up. Sometimes I wondered if there was more to her death than sickness, if something darker had stolen her from me. But this was not the time. Not here, surrounded by family and celebration. Perhaps in Italy, away from the O’Connell walls, I could finally ask the questions that haunted me.

Lee would go out with her friends, and Rigel would stay home and play holo-games all day. Could I hope for something that normal and carefree in the future? More importantly, would a future like that be possible once we stop the Coven and get through the Wane? “Sorry to intrude, Ms Lee,” I said, when Jester’s mother ushered us inside. She had an apron over her pajamas, and I realized that ordinary folk would have gone to bed already. I remember from the case files that Ms. Lee was listed as his biological mother and that Rigel was also his biological brother. Naturally one would assume they were also Gaians. But…

Rosita. Riley stopped in his tracks on hearing this and swiftly turned her gaze to her mother's bed. "What is there to understand mum....?" she queried. "No, what do you... want me to understand? You want me to understand that a woman out of her jealousy, hunted down my family and killed my dad...? You want me to understand that someone out there is spying on us and wants my entire family wiped out....?" she mumbled amidst tears. Rosita and Lian stared at her speechless and devastated.

“Wasn’t there a Luna in your Pack?” I shook my head, letting out a deep breath. “No. After my mother died, my father never brought in another Luna.” Magenta nodded, understanding. “Your mother was the Pack Luna.” I nodded. “She was killed in an attack when I was young, and my father never remarried or took another Mate.”

But he was already gone, slipping away while Daggy stood helpless in the corridor with her crying daughter and no idea how to fix any of the broken pieces of her life. The nurses came out ten minutes later with Mitchell between them, her legs barely holding her up, and the look on her mother's face told Daggy everything she needed to know. Her father was dead. Lincoln was in a palace cell for crimes she wasn't sure he'd committed. Dynan knew about Britty and was probably already planning his next move. Daggy held her mother and daughter while they all cried together in the hospital hallway, and she wondered if this was rock bottom or if there was still further to fall.
