In a daze I folded up the paper and threw it in the bin then proceeded to rinse my mouth at the sink, watching the crimson water go down the drain.

He warned me not to leave so quickly but I just wouldn't listen. Now, I had a weird, prickling pain thawing in my chest. I waited patiently for him to pick up and the instant, he did that, I beamed, “Hello Doctor, it's me, Mr Xavier. Xavier McKinney if you can't recall. I am having a serious revolving cough and I'm finding it hard to breath properly. What do you think is the cause of that?”

“Maybe an hour or so. It’s getting worse. Please, you have to help me.” He nodded, moving to the side and adjusting the oxygen mask on my face. “You’re not poisoned,” he said after a quick series of tests. “But there’s a foreign substance in your system. It’s making you cough. It’s not something I’ve seen before. We’ll need to run some more tests to identify it, but it isn’t life-threatening.”
