I hadn't talked to Bree Wallace since sophomore year AP Bio, back when we used to split lab reports because neither of us trusted our own handwriting under pressure, and now here I was standing outside her apartment door with my heart going too fast for someone about to have a normal conversation.
She answered on the second knock, hair in a messy bun, a textbook still open on the arm of the couch behind her.
"Mia?" Her eyebrows went up, surprised in a way that wasn't unkind, just genuinely startled. "Oh my god, hi. Come in, sorry, the place is a mess."
