“I’ll fix it. Trust me.” She bit her lip. “Then let me talk to him. Maybe he’ll listen to me.” “No.” I cut her off. “This is between him and me. Not you.” I guided her to lie down, her body heavy with exhaustion. She tried to fight it, but slowly, her lashes drooped, and sleep became inevitable. I stood, watching her chest rise and fall in a steady rhythm, a knot tightening in my gut. Then I left. Micah was in the living room, stabbing a knife into an apple over and over, carving it into slices that fell uselessly to the table. His jaw clenched when he saw me approaching.

Chapter 18 Rain splattered Elijah’s truck, his bare chest heaving, sweat stinging his eyes. His phone pinged, a new text: Maya’s off life support. Your signature. Done. No fucking way he’d signed that. The call’s venom—“You didn’t deserve her”—looped, a taunt he couldn’t completely shake. Maya, his wife, had to be alive. He gunned the engine, city lights blurring past him.

“Very nice to meet you Raina.” Micah was also handsome but in a different way than Xander. While Xander was all Alpha, Micah looked like he was constantly finding himself in trouble.
