I stared at the phone, ice flooding my veins at the realization. Michael wasn’t a good man. He was another monster. I was surrounded by monsters in men’s skin. Ledger’s necklace. Michael’s threats. Corrupt police. I had gotten myself into a nightmare I might never escape. The necklace throbbed warmly against my skin as I sat there, tears falling silently, realizing just how deep the ghost had become.

Her face had panic, guilt, and something unnameable written all over. Michael stood confused, angry, and sad. He tilted his neck as he heard a silent step from behind. For the first time, Michael saw the stranger. His fist balled, “Who the hell—” His jaw clenched. “Who the hell—” Kate moved faster than the stranger. She lunged forward, grabbed Michael by his coat, and yanked him sideways just as the intruder raised his hand. The hallway went dark—the power had been cut off. Michael walked into the darkness of the corridor without thinking. He was ready to devour like an animal who had been starved of food for far too long.

She struggled until she could no more and then she went still on the ground. I had to make sure she was actually dead so i placed my finger in front of her nostrils. No breath. She's actually dead-dead! Now time for the second part of my plan. “Did you bring the book?” I asked Michael who was still shaking from the after effect of murder. He was still looking at her, with his eyes looking like he would start crying at any moment. That made me almost roll my eyes. He is a wimp after all. “She's dead.” Michael betrayed me by crying.

That's when I strike. I press the talisman to his cheek, and he yells as his skin burns. "Gah!" He doubles over, and I push him to the ground, punching him in the stomach as hard as I can. I'm up and out of the house, running as fast as I can, but everything is still spinning. The world is tilted, and I can barely make out the figures fighting all around. "Heather!" Gregory runs up to me. I take his hand, and he pulls me along. Brynn is already sprinting down the street with a few other students, and I see a body in the snow and realize its Michael.

He tore the tube out of his arm, bloody spots dotting his white clothes. He lunged at Maya, yanked her out of bed. Right then, a huge black hand burst up from under the mattress, crushing the bed into bent metal scraps. The Hallway of Books Maya stumbled, her legs weak, but she kept moving. She grabbed a heavy metal tray and swung it at the nurse. The nurse didn’t dodge – she just became a cloud of red butterflies and vanished. “The door! Find the red door!” Maya shouted. They raced into the hallway. But it wasn’t a hospital anymore. The hall was built out of millions of books, stacked tall as the ceiling. I could track her scent. " Hey Sean. " Michael greeted me. Cole was creeping up behind him to scare him. I glanced at him but looked at Michael so he wouldn't notice. " Hey Michael what's-.. " before I could continue Cole came up behind Michael and yelled " Boo! ". Michael jumped and almost dropped his math textbook. I started laughing. " You morons. " I rolled my eyes. That was until I opened the book that was on the table and the whiff of something metallic hit me like a freight train. It wasn’t fresh, but it was unmistakable. Blood. I opened the first page and let out a shaky breath of shock for what had to be the tenth time since I had been in this room. “This is the diary of Amanda Crossfield. Should you come across this book while I am deceased, please read it. The dead have nothing to fear. If I am still alive, proceed no further. I will flay your skin in the open sun and coat your exposed insides with honey.”

His loyalty was commendable, so also was Michael's torture skills. There are many ways to kill a rat. He took slow steps to his front, and stopped directly below the light. In a snug black tee and black pants, Michael was the epitome of dread; the scary story told to force kids to sleep. The overhead light cast a deathly dense shadow on him, shielding his cold hooded blue eyes from the legal world.
