(Clara's POV) The light in the deep forest was growing dimmer with every step. I'd been walking alone for nearly four hours. In the dark soil directly ahead, a cluster of plants glowed with a faint silver light. Moongrass. The Black Moon Pack's ancient records were clear: Moongrass and the Tears of the Moon Goddess always grew together. The Tears had to be within a mile of this spot. All I had to do was find the Tears and swallow them. The mate bond would be severed completely. I'd be free.

I call out inside of me. There's no answer. All I can feel is the hot trickle of tears sliding down my cheeks as the lashes continue to fall, each one burning deeper than the last. The rain keeps pouring, washing nothing away.
