It was like the more he tried to shoo him away, the closer he got. Swiftly, he sat, pressing the answer button and snapping, "What?!" On the screen was a Marcos in a pink shirt with rainbows all over while he held a cake with his left hand, screaming, "Happy birthday!" Paris stared, now looking at the date as he sat up. Oh, right. It was his birthday. So? "Don't you think it's too early to try making my life miserable?" Marcos smiled at him. "Abuela and Elise made it yesterday. And it tastes really nice—"

{TW: reckless and dangerous behavior} The lights went out suddenly. "Happy birthday to you!" Damien started, his voice loud and clear. A large, extravagant three-tiered birthday cake was rolled out, illuminated by the soft glow of flickering candles. It was a masterpiece: the bottom tier a deep chocolate adorned with intricate golden swirls and rich red roses; the middle tier a classic vanilla, decorated with delicate lace-like patterns and silver pearls; and the top tier a striking strawberry, covered in a smooth white fondant with a single elegant rose at the center.

"I just got here at the bakery. It's hard to get a taxi with the rain, so it took me longer. Just stall it, Maureen. Keep Grandma entertained and don’t let her into the house until I get there. The cake needs to get inside first before she does." "But it's drizzling here in Sucat now, what am I supposed to do to stop her from entering the house?" her cousin Maureen replied in a flustered voice from the other line. That day was significant for the whole family. It was their grandmother's 80th birthday, and everyone in the family was coming to the house. She ordered a mango cake, which was their grandmother's favorite, from a famous and expensive cake shop in Alabang for the special occasion.

The third. My hand freezes on the ticket. The third cake is Luca Fontaine's birthday cake. This is Dante's order. Mama Pat frowns. She doesn't need me to explain why I've suddenly gone mute. "Are we still making this one?" she asks. "Or should I toss the order?"

I slipped out from under his arm, padded to the kitchen in his tee, started coffee because today was his actual birthday and I’d invited a few people from work over for cake and beers nothing big, just enough normal cops to make it look legit. My phone buzzed on the counter. Text from Marcus: On our way. Bringing pizza and that dip you like. Sarah’s driving so we won’t die. I snorted. Perfect. I texted back: Door’s open. Don’t eat all the dip before you get here. Then I looked at the cake still sitting there, half-eaten from last night, frosting smeared where Jace had grabbed my thigh and dragged me down on the floor with him. I cut a fresh piece, stuck a candle in it even though it was morn

His mother made them by herself, which made him think that the cakes he’s going to blow is customized by her mother with love and efforts. “Oh, mi amor,” Rosalinda mumbles after Israel blew the candles. She put down the red velvet cake and reached for his son’s head and kiss Israel on his forehead. “I’m so sorry if I can’t be with you today on your birthday, sweetie. I had to go to Mexico for a business meeting for our new project. But don't worry, all of this job that I'm working on is for your own good... For your future.” Israel chuckles and sat down on the high stool chair. Using his index finger, he traced it on the surface of the red icing of his red velvet cake and licks it.

Vanessa immediately reached for her phone, already recording the moment. The cake arrived moments later and was placed on our table, a rich chocolate cream cake, decorated with candles and the number 25 in the center. “Happy birthday…” Mom began singing softly. “No, Mom, please,” Vanessa protested, laughing in embarrassment. “Okay, okay,” Mom gave in with a chuckle. “Blow out the candles.” Vanessa leaned forward and blew them out in one go while we clapped and cheered. “Happy birthday,” I said to her warmly.
