Milo growled, his face moving entirely close to mine. He used his heavy weight to pin me down against the soft velvet cushions. I kicked my legs hard, but he trapped them beneath him. I was entirely stuck. I couldn't move at all. "You are going to like this, Anna," Milo whispered against my ear, his hot breath making me want to completely throw up. "Please," I cried, hot tears pouring down my terrified face. "Milo, please stop." He ignored my entirely loud cries. He grabbed both of my trapped wrists entirely with one massive hand, pinning them above my head. His dark crazy eyes locked onto my shaking lips.

Milo’s last message pinged from here, and my gut said we were close. Inside, it smelled like mildew and ash. I scanned the room, heart thudding. Then I saw it. A satchel. Torn. Bloodied. Lira gasped. “That’s his.” I knelt, brushing dirt off the flap. Inside, a notebook. Pages smeared with ink and blood. I flipped through. “Milo was tracking something,” I murmured. “He wasn’t just hiding. He was looking for proof. About Kael. About the council.”

The world was a smear of grey stone and cruel laughter. Without his glasses, Milo felt untethered, floating in a sea of predatory shapes. He reached out, his fingers trembling as they brushed the cold, damp grass, searching for the frames that allowed him to navigate a world that already felt too sharp for him. "Looking for these, Princess?" Miller’s voice was right above him. Milo heard the distinct crunch of a boot heel pressing into plastic and glass. Milo’s heart stuttered. A sob caught in his throat, making his chest heave, the movement straining the fabric of his oversized hoodie. "Why?" he whispered, his voice cracking. "I didn't do anything to you."

If they catch him, we’re all done for. “Impressive,” Rossi said, looking down at me from the landing. “Unfortunately, I can’t let you get away. You were expensive.” Expensive? Miles lifted his massive head and snarled at the old man. Then he turned and launched himself at the French windows. Simultaneously, Rossi ordered his men, “Shoot, but don’t kill him!”

Mili was too inquisitive to read that novel just by the cover of it. Her intriguing eyes froze her at that very spot, before the tall racks of books, for an unknown amount of time. She quietly turned the pages of that book, and the abstract paintings throughout the book made her pulse beat faster. Never in her life has Mili gone through an erotica.
