Dark clouds gathered ominously overhead as Polaris hurried along the sidewalk, her steps quickening with each distant rumble of thunder. She cursed under her breath, realizing she had left her umbrella at work. The first fat raindrops began to splatter against the pavement, and Polaris quickened her pace, seeking shelter from the impending storm.

The first storm of the season arrived in late November, three weeks after Anna's unexpected visit. We were halfway through the corridor to the Lady’s wing when thunder cracked overhead.
