Outside, after we had walked the perimeter, I held my phone out to Mister. “Can…you take a picture of me?” He took the phone without comment while I moved a bit forward trying to strike some few poses I knew and not look awkward. When I hurried over to check them, my jaw dropped. What the heck? “You didn’t even get any of the angles right… I’m headless in this one… and I look too short in this one.” “Well,” Mister said mildly, “You are short.” “I’m not short! You’re the one who’s too tall!” I snapped.

She did not expect Bennett to show up. His arrival filled her with hope. “A-Aren’t you dead?” Tobias glared at Bennett. Nearly three months had passed, and Bennett was still nowhere to be seen. That was why Tobias judged him to be dead and decided to act today.

Christine walked into the fancy restaurant with her heart beating as fast as someone who had just run two miles. What was she supposed to say to Alex Pencraft? How would she even introduce herself? They’re Lazare’s men. Curiosity laced her words as she inquired innocently, “What seems to be the matter?” One of the bodyguards, hands clasped behind his back, responded, “Mr. Lazare has requested your presence for an urgent meeting today.”

“That just means you care. Or maybe you’re on the brink of something powerful. Either way, it’s pretty exciting.” Before I could respond, Mira was swept away into yet another conversation, leaving me with a rare moment of freedom. I carried my coffee toward the far end of the lounge, attempting to stay under the radar, when suddenly a shadow fell over my sketch board. “Miss Jane.” The voice sent a shiver down my spine. I turned to face Mr. Lawrence, the executive director of luxury partnerships. Short, heavyset, and balding with a shine that reflected the light like polished stone. His smile felt unnervingly familiar.

The dining room seemed too exquisite for a home. But it was okay and unchallengeable. It was the home the Stanleys and situations of such were considered normal. He was the owner of the most renowned shipping company in the entire country. He had just received news that his trusted vice president had flown to another country with a large sum of money from their company. Everyone in the room fell silent and immediately turned their heads. They couldn't meet the intense gaze of the furious gentleman. They were in the middle of a meeting when an executive of the company suddenly entered to deliver the news.
