The mist moves strangely here, not drifting but pulsing, as if it's breathing. I reach out to touch the nearest pillar, and the stone is warm beneath my palm. Not just warm—it thrums with energy, a vibration so subtle I might be imagining it. But I'm not imagining the way the carvings seem to glow faintly where my skin makes contact, a soft silver light that spreads from my hand across the wolf's carved flank.

But this time, there was something new. A mark burned into the wood near the back — a spiral surrounded by claw lines. Kellen crouched to examine it. His brows furrowed. “This wasn’t here before.” I knelt beside him. “You think it’s one of theirs?” He nodded slowly. “The Matriarch’s sigil. She’s been marking territory.” Lira frowned. “Then why leave it unguarded?” Kellen rose, scanning the shadows. “Because she wants us here.”

I asked, growing increasingly more concerned. "We don't know what happened, but Chase found them. Agent Marks was found dead at the scene." "WHAT?!" I unknowingly shouted, altering Jessica and waking Maverick from his sleep. Maverick began to cry, and Jessica picked him up, holding him in a tight hug. She looked over at me, but I didn't miss the concerned expression on her face. I could tell that she knew that something was wrong, and was desperate to find out what had happened. I switched the phone over to speaker phone, knowing that Jessica desperately wanted to know what had happened. Thankfully, Maverick was too young to understand what was going on.

Loriann's POV It's all fun with the girls. Louise, Rachel and I tease the newly mated as they shyly stare at us. Meg proudly shows off her mark, a blue moon with a wolf's head in it. Cliara seems to have one too; Hedrick must have wanted to make sure she didn't change her mind.

Another memory claws up from where I tried to bury it. My wedding night. The room was dark, shadows everywhere. Agora took his time, stripping me down like I was something to carve, not love. His hands, his mouth, all cold. No warmth. No kindness. Then his teeth. He marked me fast. His canines were tearing in while he whispered against my skin, blood running hot. “Now you’ll never escape me.” My wolf shrieked, fighting, but his mark slammed the door on her, quieted her down to nothing.

Vladimir straightened. “Stop talking in riddles. Answer me clearly,” I snapped. Moira closed her eyes, then mumbled. "The girl wasn't the target." My heart stopped, but didn’t prod her. "The rogue wasn't sent after Astoria." "Then who?” Vladimir was the one who spoke this time. Moira looked at me. "The rogue was looking for that thing." A shudder ran down my spine, but I kept my icy front. "What thing?" The woman chuckled bitterly before answering, ”The same thing everyone has been looking for these past eight years."

My heart was beating faster with every breath I was inhaling. Then, he turned around and walked away. I exhaled a breath, I didn't realise I was holding. But the moment he disappeared into the forest, the mark started burning, it was not the usual itching, it felt like someone was burning my skin from the inside. I held it with my other hand and closed my eyes. I opened my eyes when the pain was gone, but stared at my mark in horror. My mark was bright red.

I couldn't resist joining in, clapping and chanting, "Kiss her! Marry her!" Chris turned to look at me, his face a picture of shock. "Fiora, have you lost your mind? I'm your mate!"
