Minus Waking up next to Cricket this morning was at the top of my list of life’s great moments. Unfortunately, the feeling was short lived as a sense of dread crept over me. We hadn’t exactly finished our conversation last night. Far from it. I still had one key detail to fill her in on, and I knew she wasn’t going to be happy about it.

The three words I want to say are at the tip of my tongue, but I need him to be here. "Later," he says and then hangs up. I throw the phone on the bed and put my head in my palms. I hear my phone beep, it is a message from the group chat. Keiran: Almost there Me: Okay I stand up from the bed and change into a white crop top and Greg joggers. I play music and then clean up my room since I already told the cleaners to stop doing it for me. I check the time and it is forty-five minutes after five. Fifteen minutes left.

“Oh. Guess that was the part of the announcement I didn’t hear yesterday.” Adrian chuckled. “Makes sense. After all, it’s pretty late already. We’re way past closing time.” “Yeah, true,” she agreed, reaching for her phone. “I’ll just call my driver.” She made a quick call, then waved at both of them. “See you guys later.”

“Go! Hurry up!” There were less than two minutes left in that five-minute countdown. Rex handed her his phone while he drove. Candice typed quickly: Candice: Are you near the western restaurant? Glen: Yes. Candice: They’re inside. We’re coming. Check how many people are there first. Glen replied with an OK emoji. Just as Candice set the phone down, another message popped up. She thought it was Glen again—until she saw the name.

Accusations swirled around me. James stepped in front of me again. "Enough. Joyce... Joyce had her reasons. "The medicine was past its prime." James tried to defend me, his hand in mine, forcing a smile that was more pained-looking than any tears. "Honey, I know how much you adored Brian, and you're hurting too. This isn't on you." However, the doctor's presence cast doubt on James's defense. The doctor, with a furrowed brow, corrected him. "'Expired' just means it's less potent, not that it's unusable. If there's any doubt, I can get it tested..."

"The person who is still waiting and the person who already knows." He looked at the table. He looked at me. He said: "That's us." I looked at him. "What?" I said. "The moment before and the moment after," he said. "At the same time." He paused. "We were the anticipation." He paused. "The library on the rainy night." He paused. "And now we're the resonance." He paused. "What's still present." He paused. "After all this time." He paused. "Both."

“Don’t be suspicious. I’m just putting in some extra hours. The hot air balloons need maintenance too.” “What time will you be back?” I asked him again. “A little later.” “Okay. I’ve made your favorite dishes, so please come home soon.” As time went on, whenever I asked, his responses became more dismissive. “I’ll be back later.” All those ‘laters’ often stretched into the early hours of the morning. Then there was the night I had heated his meal several times already when my phone suddenly pinged with a notification. It was a post from Michelle.

Me:😝 too late😴😴😴😴 Once the message was delivered I put the phone on vibrant and left it on my study table as I jumped on my bed to finally get some rest few minutes later I was fast asleep dreaming of what December would look like
