The dread that had been simmering in my stomach finally boiled over as I knelt on the sticky club floor, my hands raised awkwardly above my head.
The crowd that had been jeering and chanting moments ago was now scrambling for the exits. Some slipped out quietly amidst the confusion, others made a loud, desperate rush to freedom, pushing and shoving past each other like animals.
It was chaos, but at least they were leaving. Good for them.
My eyes darted to May, who knelt nearby, her face pale and strained. "May," I whispered urgently, "go. You need to get out of here."
