My fingers trembled, the rifle slipping from my grip and clattering to the forest floor. The beast snarls, a low sound that vibrates through my teeth. It wants to finish them, to end the threat with a single swipe of its massive claws. I could feel its claws digging into my mind, trying to prick the thin thread of my humanity. I close my eyes, breathing hard, and picture her, her smile, her eyes, the way she whispered, “Don’t be afraid to run.” "Even if you're a monster, it's for good, you'd never hurt anyone"

But it'a been three hours since the monster attacked them and they haven't done anything except walk around, eat some food, and wait for the monster to wake up. He can tell that the others are getting impatient, most of them are even jumping up and down, making noise like they're trying to scare the werewolves awake. As the sun sets, he knows that they have to act fast before it gets totally dark. He takes a deep breath. "Everybody!" he yells. "Grab a stick!" Almost immediately, he and the rest of his friends grab sticks and throw them at the monster on the ground. Some of them manage to land near it; the others hit empty space between the monster and the dirt.
