The blow connected, throwing him off me, but he simply slid backward on his boots, his heels leaving deep grooves in the dirt before he came to a seamless halt.
Realizing my wolf form was too large a target for his impossible speed, I snapped back into my human form as I scrambled away. I stood panting, wiping blood from my nose, my bare chest heaving as I stared at the monster before me.
"You aren't a rogue," I spat, my voice raw as I tried to buy time for my ribs to heal. The fractures were slowly knitting, but it felt like dragging heavy stones through mud. "Who the hell are you?"
The man smiled, a slow, terrifying peeling back of his lips that showed too many teeth. "A relic of a time wh
