It was a cozy quiet room and it smelled like old books. Lyle walked straight to the desk and pulled the desk chair out. Amaris could see the desk in front of her was a carved ornate piece, that was most likely very old. It too, like many of the things that she had seen in this place, had scenes depicting trees and woods and wolves on mountain tops. While Lyle was doing something at the back of the desk, Amaris took the time to look at the carving in the center of the front of the desk. One was brown-furred, the other black-furred. In the sky, the colour was turning from dark to grey, as though dawn was coming, but the Moon remained still. Even the Moon Goddess was watching to see. Atop the rocks, the cousins were oblivious to anything that was not the other moving in the circle with him. They did not see the little Palm Spring cubs, did not care that snow fell in one half of the city and left the other untouched, and did not notice that the sun seemed to be rising but it was the Moon that shone bright.

Then the clouds came. The second the sun was hiding behind the clouds, the loudest shriek Liam had ever heard in his life erupted from behind him. He turned, but he was too slow. A figure in a black cloak had grabbed him and lifted him a solid foot from the ground. It’s hands were cold, clammy, and strong. Liam struggled to breathe, crying out in pain. He could feel his neck being crushed under the weight of this...creature’s...strength, and he kicked and struggled as hard as he could. Liam could hear the sounds of the townsfolk fleeing, knocking over chairs and each other to get away from the cloaked figure. Liam took a second to look into it’s eyes, determined to see who was attacking him.

They turned and fled, their boots crunching hastily in the snow, leaving behind only the ghosts of their laughter and the deep, perfect silence of the storm. Alone, the energy drained from Luna as suddenly as it had come. Her knees buckled, hitting the soft, cold snow. She knelt there, chest heaving, cradling her shimmering arm. The cut was already closing, the silver blood slowing to a seep before ceasing, leaving only a faint, glittering trail like a celestial scar.

I get it, but to say it’s his fault, well, that just pissed me off. We found out that the rogues annihilated the entire pack at Crescent Moon. Men, women, and children. Even Crystal’s mom wasn’t spared. They burnt the pack to the ground, then tried to attack Snow Moon. They were like a swarm of locusts, leaving nothing but destruction in their wake.

RONAN HEAD RESTING AGAINST THE WINDOW, I stared past the spiderwebs of frost on the glass. Moonlight cast a blanket of silver over the snow, and the frozen wasteland glittered like diamonds. From my vantage point, it felt like I was a princess locked in a tower. Held captive by a monster who shot men in the head at a dining table set with crystal glasses and cake.

Surely, she had not relinquished me just yet. My muscle ached on running. The beast is clawing to the surface, begging me to save us both. Indeed, it will be faster with four legs but wolves will smell her the moment we turn and that makes us easy prey. And besides, my body is still recovering. Shifting will drain what's left of my strength. Both legs, wounded and weary, simultaneously leap forward passing trunks of trees along the dark and frigid night. The moon shone above, showing its dominance over the land as this one hopes for her mercy to outlive this night.
