Not even the moon that fell too close to the earth, staying just few centimeters above the top of the trees, following his every movement. Through sleepy red eyes and heavy steps, Cory made his way to the river, washing his face. Just behind him, there was a rustle in the bushes. He payed no attention to it, looking deeply into the water. The moon shimmered in the water, sending silver ripples through the entire river. But there was something else.

As soon as it was time to leave, Mason took her hand and threaded his fingers through hers before leading her outside to a patio that overlooked the river. A dinner cruise passed by as festive lights twinkled around it. It was a lovely evening. Chilly. Foreshadowing the approaching winter. A full moon was rising overhead, barely protruding above the horizon. She sighed as she observed the scenery, the boats, and the couples strolling along the riverside walkway. Yes, both the day and the evening had been ideal. Mason pulled her into his chest, wrapping his arms around her to keep her warm as they watched the activity on the river.

I bounce my head off of one but barely register the pain as the numbing waters cloud my nerve endings. Riding the waters would be extremely hard for someone who hadn't endured the horrors I have for the last 12 hours. So, for me, it's an impossible dilemma. I decide to just look up at the stars one last time. They are so beautiful and so much more prominant without the bright moon competing. I close my eyes, anticipating this to be the last time as I let the current wash me away into oblivion as I recall the last 12 hours of my life...

The drums of the Moon Festival faded behind us, swallowed by the dense treeline. ‎ ‎Kaelen led me away from the firelight, down a narrow deer path that wound toward the river. His hand was still wrapped around mine warm, rough, and anchoring. ‎ ‎We stopped at the water’s edge. The river was calm tonight, a ribbon of black silk reflecting the full moon above. The air here was cooler, smelling of wet stone and moss, a stark contrast to the smoke and sweat of the dance.

Not because our adventure was over, but because now we were floating through the mouth of a cave. The sound of rushing water was getting louder. The men nodded and got to work while the others shifted into wolves and darted back into the woods to find their comrades who had been wounded by the beast. Moon's call approached his cottage which was close to a hill at the other side of a narrow stream flowing down into the river at one part of the forest. He walked across the board bridge he had made over the stream to get to his own side. Although he would have easily sprinted through the stream if he was in his wolf form but he didn't really fancy getting wet when he was in his human form.
