I reach into my coat smoothly as we walk, withdrawing the small leather pouch the priestess entrusted to me. Moon ash. Silver dust blessed under a full moon. Truth made tangible. As we approach the threshold, I let a small pinch fall from my fingers onto the soil. The motion is swift. Natural. Invisible to all but the ground itself. The dust disappears instantly. But the earth hums. Soft. Almost imperceptible. Ryder stumbles, just slightly. His hand brushes the wall before he straightens again. If I were not watching closely, I might miss it. “You seem uneasy,” I observe.

“Scared of… losing myself… or losing you… or losing everyone.” “Then don’t,” he whispered. “Not tonight. Not ever. We build from here. We survive. Her hands moved swiftly, but her steps faltered momentarily as a young guard passed by, nodding respectfully. Nyra returned the nod with a small one of her own, then continued walking slowly among the rows of stalls in the Moon Market. Lantern light hung from magical ropes above their heads, spreading softly like stars deliberately lowered from the sky to illuminate the night.
