Too Late for Us
After a moment of silence, I said, "When my parents traveled a few thousand miles to discuss our wedding... I thought you would show up too."
Grayson's face went pale in an instant.
I turned away and walked forward. "Go home, Grayson. Compared to the cold, dry north, I much prefer the gentle rain and warm breezes down here."
Behind me, I heard his cane clatter to the ground.
He hurried after me, limping desperately.
"I can stay, Mia. You love it here? Then I'll stay here for you. Don't leave me. Please."
Someone grabbed my sleeve. I turned and looked at Grayson's red-rimmed eyes. For a moment, I felt a strange sense of déjà vu.
