********** *** Mark *** Mark sat on the smooth grass next to his mother's grave, urging himself to wake up from this bad dream. It had to be a dream, he told himself over and over again as he took another drag from his weed. The sun had now turned from yellow to white, and it hurt his eyes when he tried to look overhead. The gravestone in front of him seemed to disappear when he lowered his eyes, away from the sun. In its place was an indistinct shape he couldn't make out.

SAMIEN'S POV The cool morning breeze blew against my skin as I rushed forward. Mark stood meters away, his eyes wandering. Something about him felt different, odd. I called after him and watched his head turn towards me. His face seemed to brighten up in a rather strange manner, or so I thought. “Good morning,” he buzzed, managing a smile. “Yess… it's just I don't think there's anything good about the morning.” I let out a sigh, shoulders stooping low..

After waiting for an hour, he returns and crawls into bed with me. When I come to, I yawn and stretch out loud. "You wake me up with your yelling every morning." Mark says, shocking me. "Why are you awake?" I lash out, still dumbfounded and irritated. "Good morning to you as well," you said. He gives me a smirk as he glances across from the book he's reading to me. "Welcome to the morning." I remark icily while rubbing my eyes and rolling them. "Even when you're in a bad mood, you can make me laugh." He says smirking more.

I just closed the journal and tucked it under my pillow. And then I laid there in the quiet. Mark knocked on my door the next afternoon, holding two cups of ramen and a packet of powdered plantain chips. He didn’t even say anything, just dumped the food on my desk and sprawled across my bed. “Thought I’d come cheer up your mopey ass,” he said cheerfully. “I’m not mopey.” “You’re not talking. That’s practically mopey for you.” I sat down beside him and took the ramen. “Thanks.”

The mug was emblazoned with a faded cartoon dinosaur, and the words ‘Rawr Means I Love You. “Thank you,” she replied, wrapping her hands around it. The warmth bled into her palms, chasing away a chill she hadn’t realized she’d carried in. Mark watched all of it with visible relief, like a man who had braced for a storm and found himself instead under a firm roof. His shoulders dropped a full inch. He even let himself smile, just for a second, before remembering he was supposed to be in charge. At noon, Paul struck again.

"We're delighted to have you on board," Mark announces with a shirtless appearance, a bucket hat atop his head, and an evident eagerness to soak up the sun. "Welcome to the crew!" He adds with a hint of sarcasm. "Has waking you up finally extinguished your grudge against me?" "Maybe," I respond, nonchalantly. "I'm still weighing my options." "Cheer up, we're grabbing some grub before hitting the beach. Your awakening was my reward," he remarks with a smirk, effectively putting an end to my grumbling.

I said, inching closer to the spot close to him, at the same time, trying my best to avoid Shawn's eyes. “Marcus.” He offered his hand casually. “One of the pack’s betas.” I shook it, surprised by the warmth of his grip. He smiled again, wider this time, one of his cheeks dented with a dimple. His eyes flicked briefly between Shawn and I, like someone who just noticed something. Whatever he noticed, made his grin falter just slightly. Not disappearing, just… adjusting. That's when I look at Shawn, his face masked in a scowl. He didn't say anything or do anything, but the air became a bit stuffy, even though we stood in the well ventilated hallway with tall, open windows.

And then, ahead of them, in the farthest recesses of the cave, something glowed faintly—a soft, ethereal light that shimmered like the moon itself. Sena’s breath caught in her throat as she saw it. There, in the center of the cavern, embedded in the rock, was the first fragment of the Moonmark. It glowed faintly, the light pulsing with an almost sentient rhythm, as if alive, waiting for someone to claim it.

Would’ve I was dead? I quickly got up from my bed, turning on the lights. I ran over to my mirror and looked at myself in horror. There was a huge bite mark on my right shoulder. It was still slightly red, but it couldn’t have healed this quickly. I ran my hands over the new sore, grimacing when I felt pain. It wasn’t a dream?

The scenario turned awkward, and the tension built just watching it unfold. “Did I ask something wrong?” “No,” he answered. “I lead them like an alpha, but I'm not an alpha.
