Something waiting. --- Determined not to be paralyzed by fear, I returned to the antique bookstore — to the stories, the secrets, the fragments of forgotten women. The elderly owner greeted me with a knowing smile. “You’re searching for answers,” he said quietly. I nodded. He handed me a leather-bound tome, its cover worn but strong — *Reflections of the Forgotten*. “Read carefully,” he advised. “Sometimes the past speaks through shadows.” --- I spent the night poring over its pages. The book told of women trapped in illusions, caught between worlds — ghosts of themselves, struggling to reclaim their true identities.

But Becky owned her nerdy, geeky side. In the study, they split off and got down to search. It took hours combing through the books. They didn’t appear to be disturbed all that much. A few showed evidence of recently being removed from their place, but beyond that, nothing jumped out at Gemma. The section where books on lore and the supernatural appeared the most disturbed.

It was unusually quiet when I stepped into the living room, I moved to the table lamp and switched it on bringing light into the atmosphere. Where was everybody? I sighed heavily and dropped my bag and the books I held on the sofa, removed my shoes and neatly kept them on a shoe rack like Denise always advised us to. I could feel a twinge of pain around my right forearm and left shoulder that must’ve been from the heavy books I held and the bag on my shoulders. I rubbed it while letting out a groan but t

The logical part of my brain, the part that liked neatly restored paintings and clean brushes and answers, was having a very bad month. The occult section was tucked in the farthest corner, behind a dusty pillar and next to a broken radiator that hissed like a snake. The books looked untouched, mostly oversized hardcovers with cracked spines and spooky fonts. I traced my fingers over them, unsure what I was looking for until something sharp pricked my index finger. I jerked back, hissing. One of the books had a tiny iron spike sticking from its spine, like it didn’t want to be opened. I stared at the title.

I apologize that this book is really short with less than 30k words in all. I plan to edit it at some point and make it better. I figured that a really long Horror book might be less interesting and would just seem drawn out. I've not read a lot of them but I watch horror movies so I wrote this like I would picture an Horror movie. I appreciate all those who stuck with me and read Reincarnation regardless. Thank you all. After saying this, I would love and appreciate your feedbacks and things to watch out for when I do edit the book. It would be really helpful and appreciated.

I asked. “You.” I laughed, then figured nothing was impossible at this point. “I want to know everything about me. Every single thing.” Black smoke and dust rose from the book while the book flipped uncontrollably like it did the last time. Wind blew in the library even though no windows were open, and a sudden chill filled the air and made me shudder. The dust grew more and more till I could barely see the book anymore. After a while, the smoke disappeared, and the book had stopped flipping, but the chill was still in the room. The feeling that I was surrounded by dead people kept intruding on my thoughts.

He flipped through the pages of the book while I stared at him in horror. The more I stared at him, the more I tried to wrap my head around how he went from almost strangling someone to death to acting sweet toward me. Something was not adding up. He also made me read a book to him and while I did, I could feel his eyes staring deep into my soul so much that I squirmed in my seat multiple times. What a psychopath!

He felt immense power flowing inside of it, and he instantly sensed something terribly wrong about the book. It gave off the aura of darkness and malice, and despite the fact that he had already obtained it, the book caused his wolf to awaken and roar loudly. The werewolf king couldn’t help but to retreat from it instinctively, terrified of what the books would do to him. However, despite his panic, his fear did not last long, for a moment later, the book started glowing, turning itself into the purest form of light that he had ever seen.

But before I left for good, I looked at her over my shoulder and said, “Remember what I said. If we ever meet again, I won’t let you live.” ° ° ° ° ° ° ° I took a deep, calming breath before I inserted the key and unlocked the Book of the Damned. The second I heard the click sound, there was an earthquake. Or at least, I’d thought it was an earthquake until I realized that everything else inside my room was staying perfectly still except for the book and my hands that were holding it. The book was shaking, and I feared that it would burst at any moment. Luckily, the shaking ceased after a few minutes and the cover of the book swung open, revealing the first page.
