The place looked so empty. “Wait…” I called the maid and she stopped. “Can I see his mum, atleast?” I asked and she swallowed, looking over my shoulders and quickly hiding the fear that sparked in her iris. “I'm sorry, she went to the arena.” That's a lie. I don't know Raven's mother but from White Crisps pack, women like Raven's mum would rather knit and cook than join such a brutal show. “Let me inside.” I ordered, seizing off every soft tone and she gulped nervously.

You steal our happiness and rock the very foundation of our home. You are able to do this because Raven is my happy. She is the foundation of my home. The strength. The pillar that holds up and supports me. The beacon that lights up my home and path when darker times have hit in the past. She is my home. You make us have to pause life for a while, something that we have never done. You make us live with real, crippling fear. I hate you so much for doing that.

Raven said, sounding a bit nerved up herself. “What whole thing?” I asked. “You know the Blood Moons?” “How could I forget?” I responded, my hands shaking so badly I had to sit back and put them on my lap. Here it comes. “Father hates them,” I said as the sun beat into one of my eyes, causing me to squint. “Yes, well, that’s all about to change,” Raven said, and I expected a glum look on her face. But instead, she glowed. Her cheeks turning pink. “I’m engaged to be married to Blake.”

“And you know it. You’ll get tired of playing the hero eventually. You’ll miss the fire... your lovely Raven." “I’ll never miss you.” Before she could answer, another voice cut in. “Raven?” We both turned. My mother. She walked up with a curious smile. Raven spun around and instantly transformed. The poison vanished. Her voice pitched up like a schoolgirl. “Mrs. Bishop! Oh my god, it’s been forever!” She threw her arms around her. My mother stiffened slightly, but kept smiling. “Look who showed up,” she said. “My son’s childhood friend.”

It was the walls we built around our hearts. "Merek?" I turned. Raven was standing at the bottom of the stone stairs. She looked tired. She was wearing a simple robe, and her hair was loose. She looked like a girl who hadn't slept in a week because she was too busy counting the days until the world ended. "You should be in bed, Raven," I said. "I couldn't stay there," she said, walking toward the table. "I kept seeing the cliff. I kept seeing the red moon. I feel like the moon goddess is waiting for me to fail."

The past month was her fattening the cow for slaughter. Maddie froze. ‘Hi, I'm Raven,’ Raven introduced himself, hoping that Maddie would get some room to recover from whatever it was that overtook her. ‘Hi, Raven. What a strange name. My daughter's friend is always welcome with us, ‘Gonnie rattled. Raven recognized that nervous trait that Maddie also had. They went on board and were immediately given the grand tour. Halfway through, a tall man emerged from the front, with gray curls in a tousled head of hair.

"But darling, could you please speak for me? I can give everything else to Astrid, that pair of pearl earrings is the only thing my mother left me." Tears welled up in my eyes, and through the tears I saw only pity on Raven's face, and I saw a hint of suspicion in the way he looked at her for the first time.

“We need to find her as soon as possible. You don't have to come. I need you to stay here and rest while Tim and I go in search of her. We will bring her back here and see if we can convince her to break the curse. If she refuses, we would have to kill her, because that is just plain evil of her.” Declan didn't say anything for almost a minute. I stared at him expectantly, waiting for his permission, while his eyes remained on me. “You are so breathtakingly beautiful, Raven,” he said out of the blue. “So much that it clouds my senses sometimes.” If this was his way of shutting me up from speaking about his mother, it was working.
