"I'm glad to see that you're all healed up." "Thank you," Rayne spoke in a tone that concealed her nervousness and I liked that. I did not want her to be intimidated by anyone. I wanted my lady to be strong. We sat down and a little while later, the door of the meeting room opened after we heard a slight knock. A lady in her early thirties walked inside. She had long dark brown hair, bronze skin, and hazel eyes. 'A Middle Eastern beauty,' I read Rayne's thoughts. I wanted to tell her that even if this woman was beautiful, her beauty was nothing compared to hers.

Machines hummed around him in a soft, rhythmic cadence that kept her tethered to sanity. “Wake up,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “Please, Alex… just open your eyes.” He didn’t. Not yet. She swallowed the ache in her throat, refusing to let panic drown her. She had survived too much rebirth, betrayal, manipulation, loss and she would survive this too. Her expression held sorrow and something else Elena couldn't quite decipher.

Nikki and I then parted ways as she headed over to her desk. As I walked down the corridor towards my office, I quite literally ran into an overly fake yet undeniably stunning blonde, who had evidently just come out of Mr Gray's office. I didn't recognise her as someone I'd seen him with before, and she definitely wasn't Paige from Accounting. "Watch where you're going," she spat, her strident voice certainly not as attractive as her appearance. However, from what I'd seen of Mr Gray's dealings with women, the sound of their speech wasn't one of his main concerns.

I walked down the corridor, my heels clicking a steady, unyielding rhythm until I reached the double doors of Room 314. Standing right outside the ward, pacing back and forth with a crumpled tissue in her hands, was a middle-aged woman in a faded floral blouse. Mrs. Gable. The neighbor from the phone. She looked older than I remembered, her face lined with years of witnessing things she couldn't change. Her hair had gone completely gray, and she'd gained weight around her middle - the physical manifestation of carrying other people's burdens.
