I smiled at them both, happy to have met them. "Everyone calls me Bray. It's easier," Brayleigh added right after. I nodded at her. "Well, I'm Alison. But a lot of people just call me Ali." Lila and Brayleigh both looked like they were about to burst with excitement and it made me happy. I was glad to finally meet some new people. Lila was stunning. She had dark blonde hair, which was long and stopped in the middle of her back. She wasn't tall, but she was slim. She has curvy hips and masculine arms and legs. She had bright blue eyes and wonderful skin. She was truly gorgeous.

The faint smile she wore vanished, and her eyes filled again, overflowing before she could blink them back. “I don’t know your past,” Lila began, her voice shaking as tears streamed freely down her cheeks, “but trust me you’re the coolest person ever.” Her words came out in a rush, broken by the sound of her own sobs. “Your reputation might be dangerous, and maybe you’ve done a lot of bad things in the past, but to me, you’re the coolest.”

Zara tugs my hand, “your eyes are going to burn through her head.” Her small voice snaps me back. I look down and notice a chocolate in Zara’s hand. I kneel. “Who gave you this, Zara?” She shrugs. “My new friend, Lila.” Her name hits me like a punch. My lips tremble. “Wha… what?” “Lila gave it to me for being a good kid, so she’s my friend now.” She beams, completely carefree. I stand abruptly and stagger toward the window, just as Lila climbs into a car with her friends. The car pulls off fast, disappearing into the distance.

Lila said and I nodded. “Sorry, I haven’t really been able to check my phone. How are you?” I asked, pulling out a knife and another board to assist her. “I’m alright. I’ve missed you.” She responded and I gave her a small smile. Lila was the only friend in the entire pack I had managed to get and actually keep since my only other friend disappeared completely from my life. We were complete opposites with the things we liked and with our personalities but somehow we made it work.

At one point, she'd been my best friend. Lila was a witch. When we first met, she was practicing revival magic on dying flowers in the garden. Even though she looked way younger, I was only a year older, but it never mattered. I wasn't a witch and couldn't do magic, which made everything she did all the more fascinating. I used to sit and watch her bring dead petals back to life. Eventually, she noticed me, smiled, and waved me over.

Sienna's POV "It was beyond epic, it was just like in the movies, you know that big plot twist and all," Lila, my all-time best friend, ranted on. Her voice blared through my AirPods, her excitement quite contagious. "I am sure your client can't even believe you figured it out, playing victim when he was the culprit all along, quite bold and sinister if you ask me," I said.

She turned just in time to see Lila storming through the café doors, her oversized sunglasses perched like armor and her tote bag swinging like a weapon. “Oh, thank God,” Grace muttered under her breath. Damien arched a brow. “Friend of yours?” Before Grace could answer, Lila slid into the seat beside her, glaring at Damien like he was the villain in a soap opera. “Oh, don’t ‘friend’ me. I know exactly who you are.” Damien smirked, unbothered. “Do you?” “Yes,” Lila shot back. “You’re Damien Blackwood. Billionaire. Infamous. Probably has a secret lair somewhere. And now you’re sitting across from my best friend like you own the place.”

She saw me before Lila did and gave me this sly little smirk, like she already shipped us. “Your bestie’s on board,” I told Lila later. She groaned like I’d cursed her entire bloodline. “Ava is not on board. She’s just delusional.” But from where I was standing, Ava was very much on board. She gave me a little wave, mouthed, don’t screw this up, and then walked away. Lila nearly had an aneurysm.

But when she saw the text from her best friend Lisa, her irritation melted away. Lisa… “Don’t even think about skipping the BBQ, Lil! I know you’re probably buried in work, but you have to come. I’m not letting you hide in your shell this year!” Liliana chuckled, shaking her head. “Lisa, you know me too well,” she muttered, typing out a quick reply. Liliana… “Wouldn’t dream of it! Who else is going to out-grill your husband?” After hitting send, she realized just how late it had gotten. “Shit, it’s almost tomorrow,” she muttered, stretching in her chair. The room was dim, the only light coming from her computer screen. “Maybe I should call it a night…”

She narrowed her eyes at me, obviously not knowing what she was supposed to do with me. “Do you need help with anything?” she asked, and I shook my head. “I just need you to help me get the fuck out of here.” I said in pain. She frowned, before she burst out laughing. “The doctor said you were going to be hallucinating after you managed to regain consciousness again, but this is just funny. I’m Olivia, Lila’s friend. And we are both in Lila’s house. Lila isn’t a serial killer. You don’t have to bother about her killing you.”
