“Leo? Leo?” Another person screamed from my left, I think I heard a child cry some where in the mess but with the dimming ringing and my body being sore, I couldn’t tell. My attempts at standing up were brought down by the migraine that leapt from one side of my head to the other rendering me immobile. The dust and smoke invaded my nostrils and when I inhaled everything all together, everything drifted away. I drifted away. “A small concussion, nothing to worry about. We should probably look at those cuts on your head”

She leaned her back against the icy, rough surface, calming her racing heart. Her nose had swollen at the bridge, making it challenging to breathe. Every breath through her blocked nasal passages sounded like someone whistling a sad tune. Aiko's fingers gently trailed over her misshapen nose and bruised eyes. Then she put her hands on each side of her nose and cracked it back into place with a firm swift move. Tears flowed from her eyes as the pain spread across her face. Aiko spat out a lump of blood and loosened her shoulders.

"The severity of the pain, the nosebleed—that's all within expected parameters?" Dr. Morrison gave me a measured look. "I wouldn't say it's normal, exactly, but it's not necessarily alarming either. Migraines can be severe, and the nosebleed could be related to blood pressure spikes from the pain. However, given his recent head trauma, I do want to be cautious."

The clock on the wall said lunch would be over in a few minutes. I hurried to the bathroom and washed the blood off my face. The bridge of my nose hurt and it sat at an awkward angle. Grinding my teeth, I cursed my brother's name a dozen times. I held my breath and quickly pushed it back into place, hissing at the pain that made my throbbing headache worse. My eyes watered horribly and made the cuts on my face sting. I popped three more of my pain meds, cringing when I realized I only had a precious few left.

The door abruptly opened, smacking her forehead and nose, and she cried out. “What..why are you standing at the door?” She bent over, her head spinning and nose starting to bleed. “Are you hurt?” “Uh, no, excuse me for a second!” A little dizzy from getting hit by the door, she pinched her nose and tried looking up while running to the bathroom. While struggling to see, she made it to the bathroom. Sitting on a toilet, she grabbed some tissue with one hand and tried plugging her nose. She stared at the ceiling for a few minutes, wincing as her head pounded like drums in a marching band.

I rush to the bathroom, rinsing the blood away from my nose and wiping every stain that would give me away. It takes a while for the blood to be completely rinsed off, as it kept pouring even as I kept rinsing. If I avoid every hit to my head, it should slow down the illness, but how come all I feel is pain and discomfort? I don’t think it’s slowing down at all. I can’t imagine what would happen if I were punched in the head; it’s probably going to be my last straw, damaging my brain to the point of no repair, until I can’t breathe anymore.

I sneezed out another lump of clotted blood from my nose, resulting in a painful non stop nose bleeding "Damn it, it isn't a good sign.."

He softly wipes away the old blood and to assess the damage Geoffrey's fist did to my face. "Your nose is out of joint. I need to push it back in. Hold still," Bryce commands, not giving me a chance to brace myself when he snaps the cartilage back into place. "Fuck!" I scream in agony while seeing stars again. I blink away the tears, and Bryce's angry expression comes into full view. "What were you thinking?" Bryce grumbles as he continues his administrations to my poor nose. The bleeding has slowed, but my face is going to hurt for the next few days.

My reflection stared back at me with silent accusation, and suddenly, nothing made sense. Snatching a washcloth, I begin scrubbing my face furiously. Despite how bad it looks, there are no bruises, no cuts, no swelling. “It’s probably just another nosebleed,” I mumble. They’ve been happening more and more often lately, especially after seeing him. Something always worsens after we cross paths—migraines, bleeding, something. I blink, leaning in closer to inspect the reflection. My stomach twists when I spot the whites of my eyes—no longer white, but clouded with a deep red hue. “What on earth?” I whisper, horrified.

Romy POV I sneezed so hard my eyes watered. Groaning, I reached for the tissue box on the breakfast table and discovered there was only one left. Great. I blew my nose, dropped the tissue beside my plate, and sniffed miserably. By breakfast, my head already hurt in a way that made the dining room chandeliers feel offensive. The sunlight pouring through the windows hit the silverware too brightly. Across from me, Sorrel lowered her tea. “You look awful.”
