Axel's pov The sharp scrape of skates against ice echoed throughout the rink as I shot the puck across the surface. It slammed against the boards and I growl under my breath. "Someone's wolf is on edge," Ashton grumbled. I ignored him and skated after it as the cold air burned my lungs. Normally hockey helped me get out my frustrations and calmed me down but not tonight. Tonight it wasn't doing a damn thing. Because every time I closed my eyes, I saw Winter. Every single fucking second I think of her. Her smile, her scent hell even the way she glares at me.

Knox's POV For a heartbeat, my blood runs cold, disbelief locking me in place as I stay frozen. Then pure boiling rage blasts through me. My fingers curl into tight fists until my nails bite my palms. Adrian Voss! The captain of the Bluefang team, my hockey rival. I didn't know he was from the Blue Crest Pack. All I know about him is that he is the future Alpha of his pack. “It's Adrian,” I finally whisper to Maverick.

She really is brave to be here” I swallowed hard on my saliva to gain confidence maybe or something else but whatever it was, it needed to kick in fast

“Since you’re going to die anyway, might as well die informed.” He walked over to the chair across from me and sat down, the gun resting on his thigh. “Two nights ago, your neighbor, Calder Thorn, attacked one of my establishments. He and his pack of wolves torched my building, killed lots of my men, and destroyed millions of dollars in assets. Not only that, he’s planning something more sinister, so this is my way of telling him fuck you.” “His pack of, wait, what?” “Wolves. Werewolves, to be specific.” Dorian took a sip of his drink, watching my reaction over the rim of the glass. “Calder Thorn is the Alpha of a werewolf pack. Didn’t you know?”

It was Alpha, and boy, did it smell really amazing, like home. Allen shook her head as she tried to concentrate on Ohm's scent, which was barely there, and before she could get it, she was tackled on the ground and was now laying on her back with another wolf pinning her down. The wolf was huge, and it smelled like the same alpha she had been smelling before. The wolf's fur was black with a reddish tint, and his eyes were gold. Just the soft hiss of snow against the window and the steady, hollow beat of my own heart. At the rink he was already on the ice when I arrived, but he never looked over. He ran his usual edge work at the far end, precise and remote, as if the girl he had claimed against the glass and then begged to own him no longer existed in the same building. During drills he corrected other players. He called for more speed, tighter gaps, better sticks. My name never left his mouth. When our paths crossed he adjusted his line by the smallest fraction so that the space between us remained exact and unbroken. I hated him for it.

At least someone showed up, Dimitri thought. "I hope you don't mind me crashing your party," the man said as he shifted the chip bag into the same hand that held the beer, reaching out to shake hands. "I'm Neal Porter, former alpha of this small community." He lifted the six-pack and chip bag. "I brought a contribution to the party." He shook Dimitri's hand and then Josh's before walking over to the table and cooler to drop off the beer and chips.

I was to begin work as one of the Coaches to the Hockey Team by Monday and today was Saturday, so I had two days to settle in. Came Monday and I was excited to put my little training into work. The head Coach, Mrs. Hatfield was supposed to introduce me to the other players. They were all Alphas in rank. I also heard that we recruited new players, which I hoped Damian wasn't among, even though he was Alpha. Thankfully, he wasn't; rather, it was someone worse who got accepted, but how?
