"Let's just say she owes me," Myra said, a hint of pride in her voice. "Alright then," I said, nodding slowly. "And one more thing. Jane said Maggie gave Norella a bag, but she doesn't know what's inside," Myra added.

I reach the end of the top row and grab a book. Jane Eyre. A door cracks open in a corner, but it sounds so far away that I don’t move. Until a second later when I hear footsteps right behind me.

Her bedroom in my estate was larger than her entire living unit. “Sit,” she motioned toward the sofa. As she went to prepare tea, something on the table caught my eye. My heart nearly stopped. There it was: The Book of Outer Land. In an instant, everything clicked. The "strange lady" my mother had mentioned was Novel. And the "scared librarian" Novel had talked about was my mother. I felt a surge of relief, followed by a bit of embarrassment. How had I been so blind? “It’s eye-catching, right?” she asked, setting the tea down.
