"Go where? What, now that you’re done with me, you’re just tossing me back into the guest room?" I forced a small, tired smile. "No, I mean… you’re free. You can go wherever you want." Without another word, he turned and walked out. The door slammed shut behind him, the impact shaking the walls. Yeah. He was pissed. "Zero, I'll come see you again next time." I waved back. Only, this time, it was a final goodbye. There wouldn't be a next time. I felt my wish had finally come true when I saw Mom finally find happiness and peace. Sometimes, I still wondered if people got another life. Whose child would I be in my next life? And if I ever got to celebrate another birthday, I hoped my wish would be something simple, like growing up safe and happy.
