Mikayla shook her head feeling a little ashamed of the man hell bent that this was some sort of trap to ensnare his daughter. "Eeeh?" One of the figures in front of them cocked their head to the side completely unaware of what they were speaking of. "Well if you and your people will follow us, I'll be happy to show you the way." Back in the king's court. "Think about it. Who's to say her being here is a good sign? That she's here for anything other than her own self interests? Although each of us admit we can recognize how ethereal her presence truly is, why should we show such reverence?" Brock glanced around the room at the other nobles present making eye contact with each person present.

“Move aside.” Kaelen hesitated. The tone in her voice wasn’t human—it carried the echo of thunder, the edge of something ancient. He glanced at her, saw the glow beneath her skin brightening. Her sigil had spread across her shoulder, down her neck, a golden lattice marking her like a living constellation. Maelis smiled faintly. “Yes. That’s it. Let it take you. You can feel it, can’t you? The realm inside you still wants to live. It doesn’t know how to die.”

I spoke firmly. If my desire for revenge was previously only guided by MK, now it was truly my own, and I wanted Claude and Vicky to pay the price. When MK heard me speak of "revenge," a profound flash flickered in the eyes behind his silver mask. He did not speak but lifted my chin with his slender, white hand, lowered his head, and kissed me gently while prying open my teeth, assertive yet passionate.

The irony of the situation wasn’t lost on me and I wouldn’t instantly have their trust or respect. Rev and I walked through the lair members to the raised dais where the Elders were already seated. Nobody made way for me and they nodded their heads at Rev whilst completely ignoring me. I reached the podium and looked at my people. They were all talking among themselves and Rev stepped forward but I stopped him with a look. “Dragonkin of the Grey lair,” I said and switched my aura on. It flowed from me over them, silence greeted me as they all bowed their heads under the pressure. I was so much more powerful than them that even the Elders bowed their heads.

⸻ CHAPTER 18 “Throne of Two Shadows” The Elders’ departure left the Hall of Ash humming like it had swallowed a storm. Dust drifted from the cracked ceiling. The molten veins in the floor pulsed brighter, reacting to the power that still clung to my skin like heat. Malik hadn’t stopped staring at me. Not in fear. Not in shock. But in the kind of reverence that made my knees weak. “You don’t understand what you just did,” he murmured, voice low. “Sarai… they bowed. The Elders bowed.”
